The martial arts provide many benefits for children
including: coordination, balance, focus,
self-confidence and self-defense.
Coordination and Balance:
The mind-to-body exercises and movements practiced
in martial arts will help children develop
coordination, gross muscle control and balance.
These types of exercises strengthen both body and
mind.
Through the practice of martial arts, children will
learn the importance of staying healthy and
developing strong muscles and bones. The exercises
performed in martial arts can help build bone
density in children and older adults alike.
Focus:
Martial arts requires focus and attention to your
instructor and to your own body. Young children can
begin this practice of focus and attention with
short 40-minute sessions with integrated play. As
the child gets older and matures in his/her
practice, they can practice in longer segments
continually developing their attention span.
Self-Confidence:
Children learn self-confidence through practice and
success. In a nurturing environment, children can
practice martial arts exercises and enjoy their
growth and development in the art.
Self-Defense:
Most martial arts courses for youngsters teach basic
self-defense techniques. The safety of a child can
be enhanced by learning such techniques. Once the
techniques are learned the child will become
empowered to keep themselves and their friends safe.
Learning martial arts is a great activity for
children of all ages and can improve coordination,
balance, health and self-confidence
